What ingredients are in Terre de Couleur?
Great question! When we say Plant-Based, that's what we mean. Our ingredients are 100% certified cosmos plants. There's no ammonia, PPD, PTD, Resorcinol or MEA. You don't even need an activator, our colour mixes with just water. You can view the full INCI on each product page.
Can I get professional results?
Absolutely! There are almost a thousand salons in France using Terre de Couleur professionally, and it's a fantastic option for your client, and their hair. There are 21 colours in our professional palate, that are pre-mixed, however you can create bespoke formulas by doing your own alchemy.
How long does Plant Colour last?
TdC Colour can be used as a semi, demi, toner or a permanent colour, depending on how you use it, with no harsh demarcation lines as the natural hair grows back through. The length of time it lasts will depend on the thickness of the mixture, the time you leave it process amongst others. Plant hair colour doesn’t sensitise the hair cuticles, instead it provides a protective shield. As you apply more often, the results can actually last for longer than chemical colours.
Can I get 100% Grey Coverage?
Yes!
How does Plant Colour Work?
We're so glad you asked! It's quite different to conventional colour, as there's no forcing open the colour cuticle. First, we detox the hair with innovative clay masks. Then, plant colour coats the cuticle which provides long-lasting results and improves hair health.
What about Waste?
One of our favourite things about Terre de Couleur is that you can compost your colour waste...it's just plants and water!
Can anyone have plant colour applied?
Our colour is suitable for everyone, including those experiencing pregnancy, cancer treatment and conventional colour sensitisation. Make sure to allergy test as usual.
Is there anything Plant Colour can't do?
We know, plant colour is amazing! But we all have our limits. Plant colour can't lighten hair (only provide the illusion of lightening).
Where is Terre de Couleur made?
Terre de Couleur is proudly made in France!
Can I use plant colour on clients with chemical colour already on their hair?
Yes. You can also use chemical colour on roots and do a protective wash with plant colour on the lengths to avoid over-sensitizing hair.
Can a client have a chemical colour after a plant colour has been applied?
Yes, but they wont want to 😉. With the exception of the browns, which do not allow lightening after. For all the other colours, you can lighten, do balayage, apply chemical colours…
Is this a Henna Colour?
We need to take a step back. Henna is a plant, Henna Colour is something very different.
Henna the plant is an awesome, naturally regenerative plant that can be used as a hair colour. The traditional Henna colour often gave this plant a bad name by mixing it with other additives, such as metallic salts, lead acetate, silver nitrate, and PPD.
TdC uses over 15 plants, including henna, to create a range of shades from lightest blonde to dark brown.
Does Terre de Couleur use Salts?
No, metallic salts were often used in old-school Henna colours back in the day, causing all sorts of issues, but this colour is made only from plants, with no salts or other hidden nasties. In fact, TdC is perhaps the only brand that buys its plants whole, analyzes them in France and selects them after a strict control. This allows us to ensure both the quality and the freshness (as in cooking herbs, freshness of the plant has an effect on colour luminosity and intensity). Most other brands buy pre-ground pigments which do not allow this level of traceability.
